Study of Pressure Retarded Osmosis Process in Hollow Fiber Membrane: Cylindrical Model for Description of Energy Production

نویسندگان

چکیده

A new mathematical model was developed to predict the cylindrical effect of membrane performance in pressure retarded osmosis process. The transport layers (the draw side boundary and porous membrane) were divided into very thin sublayers with constant mass parameters, among others a radius every sublayer. obtained second-order differential balance equations solved analytically, parameters written for algebraic equation system involving 2N then determinant solution. It shown that properties, water permeability (A), salt (B), structural parameter (S) operating conditions (inlet solute concentration transfer coefficient) affect flux strongly, thus performance, due caused by variable surface volume sublayers. This significantly depends on lumen radius. lower means larger change internal surface/volume ΔR thickness. predicted results correspond flat-sheet layer at ro = 10,000 μm. At end this manuscript, calculated rates compared those measured. stated curvature using capillary must not be left out consideration when applying hollow fiber modules their relatively low presented provides more precise prediction case membranes.

Investigation of the Improvement of Energy Generation by Pressure Retarded Osmosis

Knowing the overall solute flux and the partial fluxes expressed by every single transport layer, the membrane internal interface concentrations can separately be expressed. Both the overall transport coefcient and the driving force strongly depend, among others, on the value of the structural parameter and the water permeability. Study of the interface concentrations as ...

Hollow Fiber Membrane Bioreactor for COD Biodegradation of Tapioca Wastewater

The present work studied the application of membrane bioreactor (MBR) for tapioca wastewater processing that contained chemical oxygen demand (COD) ranging from 4000-9000 mg/L. A preliminary study was initially conducted in order to evaluate membrane performance with respect to its flux with MLSS concentration ranging from 4,500 to 10,500 mg/L. It was clear that fouling was observed during the ...

Solid-Salt Pressure-Retarded Osmosis with Exothermic Dissolution Energy for Sustainable Electricity Production

Salinity gradient power (SGP) systems have strong potential to generate sustainable clean electricity for 24 hours. Here, we introduce a solid-salt pressureretarded osmosis (PRO) system using crystal salt powders rather than seawater. Solid salts have advantages such as a small storage volume, controllable solubility, high Gibbs dissolution energy, and a single type of water intake, low pretrea...
